While the days of strikes for a woman’s right to vote are long gone, being a woman in modern days is still far from a cake walk, making it of the upmost importance to band together and uplift, support, and empower each other to be the best women that we can be.

Keep reading for ways on how to actively support yourself and other women in your life in a positive and empowering way.

Work Together

Women are often pitted against each other within media and society, but that is not actually the reality for most women. Fighting for fair treatment of women is imperative, and several voices are louder than one. Between the gender wage gap and the statistics surrounding the amount of women who are placed within senior leadership positions (it’s usually not a lot, if any), it’s all the more important to fight alongside women, and show that women are just as capable of success in various fields as men. Women are smart, competent, and just as capable as men in positions of seniority and power. Let them know!

Rise Above

If you hear someone being unnecessarily negative or gossipy about women, whether you know them or not, advocate for understanding and less judgement. Women exist under a microscope, from our personal decisions on how to live life, to our bodies being judged by societal beauty standards, and there’s not need to make life more difficult for women who are just trying to live and be happy within their own skin. Supporting women is always a better option than tearing them down. Treat others how you would want to be treated!

Lead By Example

Lead by example and empower yourself. Set an example to other women on how you demand to be treated and how they should demand to be treated; with respect. Never accept anything less than what you deserve, and know your worth. This applies to both work and home life. Authenticity, independence, understanding and kindness can go a long way in life, and leading by example is the best way to stick up for what you believe in.

You Don’t Have to be Perfect

Remember, you don’t have to be super woman. Women are often expected to be able to do it all; maintain a home and family, have a successful and fulfilling career and work life, have an active social life, all the while remaining effortlessly beautiful and flawlessly in shape. This is a make believe standard, and there is no person who exists on this planet who has everything together all of the time. Women don’t have to be perfect, and that includes you! Give yourself and other women a break, and shake off and feelings of judgement for yourself, or others. Everyone is doing the best they can, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.
