It’s certainly no secret that at some point in all of our lives, we’ve felt anxious, nervous, frightened, or worried. All of these feelings are quite unpleasant, but for some people they’re easily able to find ways to cope with these emotions and then go on about their lives. For others, it’s a little more complicated. Sometimes anxiety and other associated feelings and symptoms can end up interfering with someone’s daily life to the point where it prevents them from completing even the most basic of tasks and activities. You don’t feel like yourself, and that’s no way to live. Thankfully, anxiety management can be applied so we can get back to feeling like ourselves and lead more fulfilling lives.

Tip #1

Anxiety can feel horrible, but it doesn’t have to define you, and it doesn’t even necessarily need to be a bad thing. Some anxiety in life is normal and natural, and the best think you can try to do it accept that sometimes you’ll have to face these uncomfortable moments and feelings.  While this may seem like an impossible feat when you’re in the throes of a panic attack or an extremely stressful moment, remember that the feeling will pass and that accepting the anxiety will actually help you to better control anxiety outburst and lets you take back some control over your anxiety.

Of course, if things end up getting to the point where you feel as though your anxiety issues are too overwhelming and you feel that you can’t control everything as effectively as you’d like to, it’s a good idea to consider consulting your doctor about possibly trying some form of medication and/or therapy.

Tip #2

As previously mentioned, anxiety can end up getting to the point where it causes interference in an individual’s daily life, even to the point where they feel as though they can’t take part in even the most basic of activities. The best way to combat this is to think of something, anything, to do – no matter what it is. For instance, you could take a short walk, talk to a friend or family member, or go on a drive around your neighborhood. Regardless of whatever it is that you may choose to do, partaking in some type of activity will help to break the cycle. When you’re feeling unpleasant emotions it’s easy to isolate yourself, but reaching out to someone you love and supports you is a great step in the right direction.

Tip #3

Schedule time throughout your day to partake in small meditation or breathing exercises, both of which are great for helping to reduce feelings of anxiety. The most important thing is that you remember to perform the exercises themselves whenever you receive your reminder to do so. By taking a few moments out of your day just to focus on yourself, you will be doing so much for your overall mental health.

Tip #4

Another important step is to recognize many of the physical signs of anxiety. For instance, if you begin to freeze or tense up in various areas of your body whenever you start to get these feelings, stop whatever you’re doing and immediately begin to take some deep breaths. From there, take part in an activity that you know will help to calm you down rather than doing something that works for someone else. This is easier said than done sometimes, but trust in yourself and know that putting yourself first is the best thing you can do.

Tip #5

Take the time to come up with a daily routine for yourself that will result in increased positive mental health for you in the long run. In order to ensure that you obtain the best results, it’s a good idea to write down your mental health goals. For instance, you could choose to walk a specific distance at certain times during the week, stop using all electronic devices after a certain time of the day, or anything else you can think of. By following the goals that you establish for yourself, you will notice almost right away that you have the power to take control over your own life rather than allowing feelings of anxiety to overwhelm you.
